Resident recounts eviction, alleges mistreatment by deputies during public comment

Tamara Gomez-quinones testified during the committee’s public comment period that she was recently evicted after what she called a fraudulent title claim and that legal counsel missed filing dates that harmed her case.

Gomez-quinones said she was referred to Eviction Defense Network after her first lawyer failed to meet deadlines but that the second provider later declined to continue her case. She said her belongings were removed and placed "into garbage bags with maggots," and that she is now homeless and sleeping on a friend’s floor.

Describing the eviction itself, Gomez-quinones said sheriff deputies "locked down both ends of my street," prevented other tenants from retrieving belongings, and she was made to stand outside "partially naked, without undergarments, in full public view for over an hour" while deputies held her phone and restrained her. She said the experience left her outraged and that she feels her civil rights have been consistently ignored.

No LA County Sheriff representative or other agency responded during the committee meeting. Committee staff offered to follow up with Gomez-quinones about her council district after she identified her location as the Hollenbeck division and indicated prior difficulty reaching council offices.

The committee did not take any immediate action in response to this testimony during the meeting; this public comment was entered into the record.
