Aaron Emberton, interim executive director of education, summarized several education items for the council: 13 teachers were recognized in the Teacher of the Year presentation; Stilwell Head Start concluded its school year; the college resource center scholarship application deadline is 5 p.m. Central Standard Time on June 15, 2026; and Johnson O’Malley spring training on April 28 had 33 schools and 44 participants.
Emberton said Camp Cherokee applications are posted on the Cherokee Nation portal and that Camp Cherokee will run for six weeks with cultural, language and STEM activities. He announced the RTR send-off is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 at One Fire Field. Emberton also highlighted Sequoia students’ successes in athletics and performing arts and noted construction work on Sequoia buildings is expected to finish before the start of classes next August.
Councilors did not take policy action during the report. Emberton said staff would distribute more dates and details by email and through internal channels.
