City staff announced that both beach stairs are being advertised for bids beginning the day of the briefing; the city said the bidding period will be about one month and that the contractor is expected to be selected so work can start before the end of the fiscal year in June.
“After much ado, the beach stairs, both beach stairs are going out for bid this Friday,” the host said, adding that staff wants the work to be properly engineered and thanked residents for their patience. The host said Ken had told staff the city would begin construction before the end of June.
Staff also warned residents about road work scheduled to begin Monday, April 20, and run through Wednesday, April 22, at the top of Ocean Avenue between Hatton and Randall; the briefing urged motorists to avoid that stretch during the work.
Why it matters: Replacing the stairs will affect beach access and local construction schedules; the short road-work closure will affect traffic patterns at a frequently used access point.
Next steps: The city will advertise and accept bids for about a month, then select a contractor and notify the public before construction begins; residents were advised to avoid the work area during the April 20–22 closures.
