Tivoli honors volunteers, theater company and local band at reorganization meeting

The Village of Tivoli used its April reorganization meeting to recognize local volunteers and community groups for service to the village.

The mayor presented the Margaret S. Lemon Award to Andrea Miller Roads for publicity and marketing work that has helped bring attention to village events and local merchants. The board then honored the Tangent Theater Company with the Alan Covert Character Award in recognition of 25 years of ensemble-based theater in the community.

A citizenship award (the James Star Clark citizen of the year award in the transcript) was presented to a longtime volunteer identified in the meeting as Gary (transcript surname appears as "Dearo"), citing decades of planting and stewardship — including rows of pear trees and viburnum along Broadway — and prior service as a trustee, deputy mayor and planning-board chair. The tree committee had submitted the nomination describing Gary's many years of unpaid work to maintain and beautify village planting.

The board also recognized the local band Hoot Nanny (receiving an Angelo Stafiro Award for decency) and invited band members to accept the honor; a short musical performance followed.

The recognitions were presented as part of the reorganization meeting's community acknowledgments, and the board expressed thanks to the many volunteers and partner organizations that help run village programs.
