Students honored: Jefferson Scholar, Presidential Award, All‑State musicians and national competition invites

The Fluvanna County School Board began its meeting with a broad slate of student recognitions from across the division.

High school principal Margot Bruce and Superintendent Dr. Brecht highlighted top academic honors: Mia Dixon as the division’s first Jefferson Scholarship recipient and Haley Smith as a Presidential Award winner. Several students earned one‑year certificates or associate degrees from Piedmont Virginia Community College, including Alexia Ward and Zachary Carter.

Teachers and program leaders recognized extracurricular achievements: choir and band students heading to All‑Virginia events (Walter Everard selected to the inaugural TTBB All‑State Choir; Jonah Frank and Brennan Fitzwater placed among top instrumentalists), culinary and FFA state fair winners, and technology teams. The drone team and KidWind (renewable energy) teams reported wins and invitations to regional and national competitions, including KidWind Worlds in Madison, Wisconsin.

Board members and staff congratulated students and coaches; multiple photo opportunities and applause punctuated the recognitions.
