The Bannock County Planning and Development Council approved a six‑month extension for a previously granted roadway setback variance for Ted Van Horn, who said he had been caring for ill parents and had delayed construction.
Van Horn provided his name and address and explained caregiving responsibilities limited his ability to proceed on the project. Staff told the council the extension request was filed before the original expiration date and that the applicant had been in contact with staff about renewal. Staff recommended approval based on the applicant’s justification and timely filing.
Councilors approved the extension by roll call. Staff noted that because a building permit was submitted and found consistent with the previously approved 25‑ft Utah Drive setback, the extension formalizes the remaining administrative timeline and that the building permit process will proceed accordingly.
What happens next: Staff will note the new expiration date in case additional administrative steps are required; the applicant may proceed under the building permit that was submitted in compliance with the approved setback.
