House adopts committee reports and committee assignments, disagrees with Senate amendments

The House of Representatives convened and completed roll call with all 51 members present before taking several procedural actions, adopting standing committee reports and approving committee assignments for the 33rd Legislature.

Representative Kahaloa moved to adopt standing committee reports HSCR 2165-26 and HSCR 2166-26, which the chamber approved by voice vote; the House also adopted HSCR 2167-26 and HSCR 2168-26 later in the same series of votes. The clerk announced that accompanying Senate concurrent resolutions would be referred to their designated committees.

The clerk reported receipt of Senate communications returning House bills that had passed third reading in the Senate. Representative Kahaloa then moved that the House disagree to the amendments the Senate made to those returned House bills; Representative Morikawa seconded the motion, and the chamber carried it by voice vote.

House Resolution 214, concerning committee assignments for the House of Representatives for the 33rd Legislature and offered by Representative Quinlan, was placed before the chamber. Representative Kahaloa moved to adopt HR 214; Representative Morikawa seconded, and the House adopted the resolution by voice vote.

Members used the announcements period to introduce guests and staff in the gallery and to promote upcoming community events. Representative Tarnas introduced members of his staff and several former staffers now serving as court clerks and staff attorneys, saying, "I am very grateful for my staff." Representative Capella previewed "Art at the Capitol," scheduled the following day from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m., listing performances and cultural activities. Representative La Chica invited members to a Goals Hawaii and Mothers Against Drunk Driving awareness event at 9:00 a.m. in the rotunda followed by a sign-waving event.

Before adjournment, Representative Morikawa moved that the House stand adjourned until 12:00 noon the following day; Representative Garcia seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
