Middletown School Committee approves calendar changes, policy updates and personnel window

The Middletown School Committee voted April 16 to approve a series of administrative and calendar items, including waiving two certified 2026 snow days, adopting a revised school calendar and approving multiple policy updates.

The committee approved a motion to waive two school days (the 23rd and 24th) of the 2026 calendar if those days are certified and if affected education staff and administration reach agreement on how the days will be used, the superintendent said. The committee also approved a revised fiscal year 2026 calendar setting the last school day as June 24, 2026.

The committee passed a set of second readings described as housekeeping and statutory cleanups: Policy 9250 (district branding and logo) to centralize control of logos, Policy 4220 (employees telecommunications equipment and use), Policy 4000 (administrative compensation), Policy 7114 (learning environment: suspension and expulsion), and Policy 9130 (energy management and conservation). Each was moved, seconded and approved during the meeting.

The panel also voted to reopen early retirement for one month with incentives referenced in the teacher contract. "There’s some incentives attached to early retirement," one member said during discussion; the motion passed.

All items were presented by the superintendent and carried by voice vote. The committee did not record a roll‑call tally in the transcript; motions were presented, seconded and announced as passed by the chair before adjournment.
