Commissioners approve abandonment and transfer of two private road segments to adjacent property owners

The Board of Commissioners held public hearings and approved abandonment and transfer of two county road segments to adjacent property owners.

Drum Point Way: Resident Dustin McCain told the board that neighborhood property owners have long maintained the roadway and had not seen county maintenance there; he asked that the county abandon the roadway and allow property owners to take ownership. Commissioners approved abandonment of Drum Point Way and authorized transfer to the adjacent property owners. Staff said there was no evidence of significant prior payments for the roadway and noted emergency services information must be updated with 911 after transfer.

Sunshine Lake / Sunshine Campground Road: Property owner representative Michael Roberts said a single buyer had acquired the corner parcel and intended to reconfigure parcels into three lots; abandonment would permit that subdivision and reduce public traffic at the dead end. The board held the required hearing, approved abandonment, and authorized transfer to the landowner as requested.

Both actions followed advertised hearings and required notices to property owners; the board took the approvals by motion and voice vote.

The county attorney and public works staff will prepare the transfer documents and ensure utility and emergency-service routings are updated.
