Calcasieu Parish School Board approves budget revisions, audits and multiple procurement contracts

The Calcasieu Parish School Board on April 14 approved a set of fiscal and procurement items presented by the Budget and Finance Committee.

The committee recommended approval of General Fund budget provision No. 2 for 2025–26, which staff reported projects revenues and other sources of $418,855,815 and a projected deficit of $17,325,416. The projected unassigned fund balance after the provision was stated as $50,692,676 (12.10% of projected revenues). On a motion from the committee, the board approved the budget provision.

Committee staff also presented final school audits and recommended approval; the board approved audits for multiple schools as listed in the packet. Procurement items approved included bid awards for Parkside school renovations (bond‑funded projects), welding equipment, temporary roof repairs and janitorial and nutrition equipment; staff recommended the lowest responsive bidders and the board carried the motions by voice votes.

The board reappointed Charles Douglas to the regional airport authority and approved the appointment by voice vote. A second reappointment for the east‑side airport representative drew criticism from members who said the representative had not provided recent reports; the board tabled that reappointment to allow the individual to appear and respond.

The superintendent also reported operations and events, including higher‑than‑budget March sales‑tax receipts as noted in the superintendent’s packet.
