Captain Butler presented the Shelby County Sheriff's Office monthly update during the Harlan City Council meeting on Dec. 2, reporting November activity that included 16 accidents, 32 traffic citations, 108 traffic warnings, 19 arrests, 378 contacts and several other service categories.
A county representative also noted the recent release of a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office mobile app on the Apple and Google app stores that can push notifications and provide inmate information. The county is encouraging residents to download the app and to register for local alerts.
Officials reported 46 total applicants for a posted full‑time jailer position and plans to begin screening candidates; the city also noted nine applicants for a code‑enforcement opening and that in‑office staffing has recently reached full capacity with a new hire, Maya King.
What this means: the stats provide a routine monthly snapshot of law‑enforcement activity in the area, the app is being promoted as an additional channel for emergency notifications, and hiring activity suggests the county and city are moving to fill routine vacancies.
