After a public interview process for a vacancy left by Angela Penna, the Berkeley Heights Board of Education voted to appoint Miss Huffnagle (Huffnagle) to the board.
The board conducted four candidate introductions in alphabetical order and allowed each candidate up to three minutes to address the board, followed by three uniform questions. Candidates included Mr bang, Steve gusy, a project-manager candidate identified in the transcript as Missel, and Debbie Terrero (who appeared in the record as Miss Terio/Debbie Terrero); the board then held a brief executive session to deliberate.
On return to public session the board accepted nominations and held roll-call votes. The roll-call recorded seven votes in favor of the successful nominee (Mrs Connor, Mrs Jolly, Mr Kiri, Dr Forer, Mr Heyman, Miss Stanley and Miss Bradford). The board president announced that the district will assist with onboarding and swearing-in procedures before the appointee is seated.
Board members emphasized that the appointment is intended to support the district’s immediate work — including an upcoming superintendent search and continuity through the summer months — and some candidates explicitly framed their potential service as a short-term, highly time-committed contribution to hiring and transitional tasks.
The board adjourned briefly to executive session to deliberate candidates and returned to public session to vote; administration and board leaders said onboarding steps will follow and the appointee will be sworn in after required completion of administrative onboarding.
