The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on April 14 approved the second reading of flood‑plain ordinance No. 25.
County staff told the board that a resolution intended to set the effective date for updated flood‑plain maps — May 26 — was mistakenly posted with the agenda and will be moved to next week for proper consideration. The board proceeded with the ordinance’s second reading and approved it by voice vote.
The procedural exchange during the meeting drew attention to timing: staff said the ordinance references updated maps that take effect on May 26, and the separate resolution would align the ordinance’s effective date with that schedule. Because that resolution had not been posted in advance, the county will present it for consideration at a later meeting.
Supervisor Cheryl Mack, voting with fellow supervisors Tom Broker, Jim Perry and Shane Campbell, recorded the affirmative votes to approve the second reading. The board did not debate the ordinance’s technical details during the session.
The board’s clerk will publish the ordinance and the county’s formal notice when the effective date resolution is posted and finalized.
