Martinez Unified honors classified employees of the year

The Martinez Unified School District Board of Education on April 13 recognized its classified employees of the year, honoring nominees from multiple school sites for work ranging from paraprofessional classroom support to custodial maintenance and food service.

Superintendent Dr. Gigi Patrick and Assistant Superintendent Janelle Ayat introduced honorees and described the range of classified roles that support students and staff, including instructional aides, LVNs, office personnel, cafeteria workers, custodians, grounds and technology staff. Nominees and honorees named in the meeting included Miriam Flores (John Mir Elementary), Maddie Brisco (John Sweat Elementary), Tammy Dylan (Lasuntas Elementary), Vivian Quantero (Martinez Junior High), Charlene Cardelli (Alhhamra High School, county nominee), Rick Moore (district technology specialist), Renee Lease (Martinez Early Intervention Preschool clerk), Mary Brun (Martinez Adult Education office manager) and Consuelo "Easy" Augustine (district food service).

Ayat noted that each school site selects one classified employee for recognition each year and the district forwards nominees in specific occupational specialties to the Contra Costa County classified school employee of the year program. County nominees from Martinez — Charlene Cardelli, Tammy Dylan and Consuelo Easy Augustine — will be recognized at a county celebration on April 29.

Board members offered brief remarks of appreciation and invited awardees to a group photo at the meeting’s close.
