Village Manager Elizabeth Scott told the board the intergovernmental agreement with Will County, first put in place in 2021, needs renewal to keep license-plate-reader (LPR) cameras on county highways. The IGA lists camera locations and includes requirements on FOIA responses and restrictions on data disclosure and use.
Why it matters: LPRs are a public-safety tool that can aid investigations and vehicle tracking; the IGA governs data access and village responsibilities if records are requested.
Trustees asked whether additional cameras could be added on roads not owned by the county and about placing cameras to deter illegal dumping. Manager Scott and staff said non-county roads would require separate arrangements and that the village can independently explore adding cameras — not necessarily of the LPR type — on other corridors. The board agreed to move the renewal to the next meeting for formal action.
What’s next: The item will be placed on the next agenda for a formal vote and staff will explore options for additional cameras and anti-dumping enforcement.
