The district recognized the revived DECA chapter at the board meeting, where adviser Lisa Jacobs and student members described the club’s growth and recent competition results.
"We had 25 members this year, nine qualify for states, and two qualify for ICDC," adviser Lisa Jacobs told the board. Students described role-play and written events, the skills they gained — public speaking, teamwork and financial analysis — and the time spent preparing presentations and written research projects.
Several students who qualified described their events: role-play competitions in sports and entertainment marketing, a written Financial Operations Research project proposing an AI model for a local credit union, and individual testing segments used in some events. Students said the national competition (ICDC) will be in Atlanta later in April and asked the board and community for volunteer judges at regional competitions.
Board members praised the students and the advisor, and several noted plans to support club growth through the district’s newly launched financial literacy program in middle school.
No formal board action was required. The presentation highlighted student achievement and requested community support for judging at regional competitions.
