The Carroll County board adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget and certified the tax levy at its meeting, approving both Resolution 2026‑4 (elected officials' salaries) and Resolution 2026‑5 (budget adoption and tax certification).
Courtney, a county staff member who presented the budget during the public hearing, said, “I'm pretty proud of the work we did. I think it looks really good. Our urban rate is 3.89887 and the rural rate is 7.64589, which is less than it was last year. Overall asking is just up a little bit.” She told the board the county had received no written or oral public comments on the budget.
Chair Jean and other board members praised staff for producing a conservative budget that maintains county services. After brief discussion the board moved to adopt a resolution that lists elected officials’ salaries as contained in the approved budget. Resolution 2026‑4 was approved on a roll call: Anderson — yes; Osman — yes; Miners — yes; Johnson — yes; McCrae — yes.
The board then moved to adopt Resolution 2026‑5, formally adopting the FY2027 budget and certifying the tax levy that will be used when taxes are assessed this summer. A board member explained that adopting the resolution “puts the numbers in there” and that the certified levy is what will be used for tax calculations. Resolution 2026‑5 passed on roll call: Anderson — yes; Houseman — yes; Miners — yes; Johnson — yes; McCrae — yes.
The budget adoption completes the county’s formal budget process for the coming fiscal year; the certified levy will be applied during the county’s summer tax collection process.
