Council approves consent agenda, resurfacing and appointments in unanimous votes

Akron City Council convened April 29 and approved its previous meeting minutes and the consent agenda by voice vote, with the clerk recording the minutes and the consent agenda as passing 13 to 0.

The council passed several ordinances and resolutions under suspension of the rules. Items placed on or passed from the consent agenda included an ordinance authorizing community development corporation support under the 2026 consolidated plan (Item 2), contracts and loan-application authority for water-system projects (Items 4 and 5), and an ordinance authorizing a contract with Orianna House Inc. for confinement, rehabilitation services and alternative sentencing options (Item 10). Several resurfacing and street-improvement ordinances tied to residential and arterial collector programs (Items 6, 7 and 8) were discussed and recorded as passing 13 to 0.

The council also confirmed two appointments to the Akron Citizens Police Oversight Board. The resolution approving the appointments of Jennifer Boswell and Tamara Brooks (Item 9) passed unanimously. The presiding officer acknowledged Jennifer Boswell in the audience after the vote.

Several items were presented for committee review or had committee time requested rather than immediate passage. Notably, Item 3, a proposed development and community-benefit agreement with Waste Management of Ohio Inc. for a new waste and recycling transfer station in Akron, drew committee requests for additional time and was not finalized under the consent agenda.

The session concluded with the announcement of committee meeting times and the meeting was adjourned.
