Treasurer/Tax Collector Jake Stout urged Monterey County property owners to pay the second installment of secured property taxes by Friday, April 10, warning that penalties are added for late payments.
"Your second installment of secured property taxes are due this Friday, April 10th," Stout said, adding that the county has expanded payment choices since a decade ago.
Stout recommended online payment as the fastest, most reliable option. He walked through the county website flow — locate your property by parcel number, add the second installment to the cart, then choose a payment method. "It's really as easy as one, two, three," he said, noting residents can pay by credit or debit card or by eCheck to withdraw directly from a checking account.
For residents choosing to mail payment, Stout reminded listeners that the postmark determines timeliness and advised using a manual postmark when mailing close to the deadline. For people who prefer in-person payments, he cautioned that construction around the county government center at 168 West Alisal has reduced visitor parking and may cause delays. "There's limited visitor parking right now," he said, and urged allowing extra time.
The treasurer closed by reiterating the deadline and encouraging early online payment to avoid penalties and last-minute stress. Contact details and payment instructions are available on the Monterey County Treasurer–Tax Collector website.
