Jake Stout, Monterey County’s newly appointed treasurer-tax collector, reminded property owners that the second installment of secured property taxes is due Friday, April 10.
"Your second installment of secured property taxes are due this Friday, April 10th," Stout said, adding that the deadline is firm and that penalties are added for late payments. He encouraged residents not to wait until the last minute.
Stout outlined four payment options: online, by phone, by mail (the postmark determines timeliness), or in person at the county government center. He recommended paying online when possible as the fastest and most convenient option and demonstrated the online steps: locate your property by parcel number, add the second installment to the cart, then select a payment method (credit or debit card or eCheck).
The treasurer also advised residents choosing the mail option to obtain a manual postmark at the post office when close to the deadline. For in-person payments, he warned of limited visitor parking and ongoing construction at the government center at 168 West Alisal; patrons should allow extra time for parking and possible delays.
Stout said county staff remain available to help residents with questions and provided contact information on the county website. The treasurer recommended paying early and online where feasible to avoid late penalties and stress as the deadline approaches.
The county’s reminder follows routine annual deadlines for secured property tax installments; no vote or formal action was taken at the briefing.
