Coalition organizers used the meeting to promote several upcoming public-health and community events and to request volunteers and sponsors.
Staff invited members to a public-health wellness obstacle 5K at the Buena Vista sports complex (registration open; volunteers needed 7 a.m.–noon) and said the coalition will be a designated site for a medication takeback. A half-day Think Smart facilitator training — six lessons offered free for youth-serving organizations — is scheduled for April 20 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Organizers also outlined back-to-school events seeking sponsors and school-supply donations, noted plans for a National Night Out site on Aug. 4, and described a Pride healthcare outreach planned with West Care and the City of Laredo Public Health team. One related 5K was scheduled for Aug. 1 at North Central Park.
On coalition branding and giveaways, West Care offered $1,250 to donate t-shirts; staff said they would produce two or three mockups and return the item for a coalition vote at a future meeting. Volunteers and agencies were asked to share event details in the coalition's group text so organizers can finalize logistics.
Staff closed by asking members to reach out with any youth- or campus-focused activities for inclusion on future agendas; the coalition's next meeting is scheduled for May 13.
