The New York State Assembly adopted several ceremonial resolutions on April 28 recognizing public-awareness months and community milestones.
Members spoke in support of a resolution to proclaim April as Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Month. "Right now in New York, there are nearly 9,000 New Yorkers waiting for an organ transplant," sponsor Mister Palmisano said, and he urged colleagues to use their offices to promote registration and awareness. Colleagues shared personal stories of donors and recipients and the resolution was adopted by voice vote.
The chamber also passed a resolution recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month; several members offered personal testimony about family members and called for acceptance, early intervention, and continued support for services. A separate resolution commemorated the Punjabi American community and Vaisakhi Day; the sponsor noted both the community's cultural contributions and concerns about a rise in hate crimes. The Assembly also marked Amtrak's 50th anniversary and other routine recognitions; these resolutions were adopted in a single series vote.
All of the ceremonial measures were adopted without recorded opposition and the floor concluded with scheduling announcements and adjournment.
