Selectman Jan told the board April 7 that Brookfield applied for a T‑Mobile Hometown Grant seeking $38,000 to address poor acoustics in the town hall.
Jan said the application included five letters of community support, cost quotes and a report indicating the work is shovel‑ready; the request covers acoustic ceiling tiles, sound dampening for the furnace and window shades to reduce reverberation. "We asked for $38,000," Jan said while outlining the project timetable.
Grant awards are expected at the end of May and checks distributed June 1 if Brookfield is selected. If the town does not receive the grant, Jan said the board has funds in its budget to proceed and that the plan would be to schedule work for completion by the end of November.
Selectmen also noted they had solicited three HVAC quotes and will review options for relocating or repainting a wall‑mounted unit to fit the acoustics project design.
