Selectmen approve increased cleaning schedule, review timesheet approvals and prepare handyman job posting

Brookfield Selectmen on April 7 approved a proposal to increase the town office cleaning contractor's visits from twice a month to four times a month at $50 per cleaning after a motion and roll‑call vote.

The board also discussed auditor recommendations that time sheets be approved by department heads and that selectmen provide a back‑up reviewer where departments lack a supervisor. One selectman volunteered to assist with general journal‑entry review and staff will notify board members when time sheets need review.

Selectmen reviewed a draft hourly handyman job description and requested changes including switching compensation language from per‑diem to hourly, clarifying liability requirements and adjusting qualification wording; staff were authorized to make edits and post the position once revised.

Jan recused herself from the cleaning contract vote where indicated; the board recorded the motion and ordered staff to process the hiring and payroll accordingly.
