Edinburg — The council used its proclamations and recognitions segment to highlight public‑health outreach, youth sports and the work of public‑safety telecommunicators.
The council proclaimed April 2026 as National Cancer Control Month at the request of DHR Health. A DHR Health representative and Amanda Wing, Outreach Coordinator with the Oncology Institute at Renaissance, described screening efforts and community support programs for patients and families.
Council recognized Harvest Christian Academy's Lady Eagles for a state championship. Coach Haime Gonzalez and senior player Cat thanked the council and community for support; Cat said the team was proud to represent Edinburg.
The council proclaimed April 12–18, 2026, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in recognition of Edinburg Police Department telecommunicators. City leaders highlighted awards received by dispatch staff and presented call‑volume statistics year to date, noting telecommunicators also support the city’s drone program and critical response coordination.
Why it matters: proclamations publicly acknowledge community contributions, public‑health outreach and public‑safety work and can boost awareness for screening programs and telecommunicator staffing and training.
What’s next: organizers invited residents to local awareness events and DHR Health invited the public to upcoming screenings and a June walk for cancer awareness.
