City Manager Benjamin Gunderson presented three options for relocating the council chambers during the April 6 meeting and asked council whether he should obtain construction estimates for all three.
Option one (old finance wing) would yield about 72 seats with little demolition but less favorable sight lines; option two (the space at Harry Hodgees) was roughly 71 seats and would allow retention of an executive conference room; option three (current administration offices) would provide an 86-seat capacity but require the most demolition. Gunderson said audiovisual (AV) costs would be similar across options and emphasized proximity to elevators and restrooms as factors for accessibility.
Council members asked to see numbers for all three options and agreed to visit the spaces during business hours. Gunderson said the city will attempt to complete as much work internally as possible and will return with estimates and recommended options at a future meeting.
