At its meeting the Traffic & Parking Commission approved multiple routine and operational items on the consent and regular agendas.
Consent agenda: Items 5.1 (multiway stop at Chestnut and Trimble), 5.2 (speed reduction on Rosebank from 35 to 30 mph in portions of CD6/7), and 5.3 (removal of one pay-parking space for a bus shelter near 339 11th Avenue South) were approved by voice vote. Item 5.4 (new pedestrian hybrid beacon on Murfreesboro Pike) was pulled from the consent agenda and deferred indefinitely at staff request.
One-way conversion: Item 6.1 authorized converting Pennock Avenue to one-way northbound between Douglas and Gatewood and converting Stainback Avenue to one-way southbound between Gatewood and Douglas following NDOT site work and consultation with the fire department; commissioners approved the measure to improve emergency access.
Valet cancellations and new loading zone: NDOT presented an audit showing three previously permitted valet zones no longer operating. The commission approved revocation of those valet permits and approved converting one location to a loading zone to better serve surrounding businesses; staff said notices had been issued and that the permits had not been used in 2026.
Next steps: NDOT said it will handle signage, enforcement scheduling and any follow-up studies required for implementation; several commissioners requested return briefings on implementation timelines and enforcement plans.
