Peter Khan, the city's newly appointed director of community development, was introduced to the Yucaipa City Council on May 11 after a competitive recruitment process, City Manager Dr. Sean Moore said.
Dr. Sean Moore told the council that Khan was selected following an external and internal recruitment and a finalist interview. Moore said Khan brings more than 20 years of municipal experience across planning, economic development and community development, including work involving land use, housing, zoning, general and specific plans, CEQA and NEPA, code compliance, and building and safety.
Khan, who began his role the prior week, told the council he would prioritize listening to local residents and the business community. "I look forward to listening to the business community and the residents and the stakeholders and hearing their concerns and being a part of the community," Khan said.
Moore said Khan holds graduate coursework in public administration from California State University Long Beach, a bachelor's degree from the University of Los Angeles (as listed in the staff report) and an associate's degree from Santa Ana College, and that his experience includes service with the cities of Lawndale, La Mirada, Phoenix, San Diego and Whittier.
Council members welcomed Khan and posed no formal questions. The council and staff invited Khan for a group photograph following the introduction.
The introduction was informational; no formal council action was required to introduce Khan during the meeting. The city manager said staff and council anticipate Khan will support the city's goals for transparent, collaborative and sustainable community development.
