During the opening portion of the hearing, the County Council heard testimony for a series of nominees to county boards and commissions.
Jason Bashura introduced himself in support of his nomination to the Board of Health, describing a background in environmental and public health work. Several nominees to the Human Rights Commission — Mabruka Chaudhry, Linda Earl, Musa Abdul Aziz Jaffrey, Josh Kaufman and a student nominee — each spoke about their interest in civil rights and community service; Bob Ford, chair of the Human Rights Commission, offered collective support.
Ted Cochran described his interest in multimodal transportation and bike advocacy in support of appointment to the Multimodal Transportation Board. Hunter Craig, a high-school student nominee, described his involvement in student civic groups and interest in the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission.
Why it matters: These appointments shape advisory boards that influence public-health, human-rights and transportation planning across the county.
What happens next: Nominations were presented during the hearing and will proceed through the council’s confirmation process; some will be addressed in subsequent council business.
