Historic society invites HPC to Dandelion Days; commission advances plaques outreach

Commissioners were told the historical society is open to having the Historic Preservation Commission participate at the society’s Dandelion Days booth. Staff said the society indicated Kim would be the contact and asked commissioners to reach out to her if they wish to staff the booth.

The commission discussed public outreach for the town’s architectural and historic plaques program and agreed to increase publicity, including flyers and targeted outreach to homeowners. Staff said several people had already expressed interest and described the paperwork needed to sign up properties, including owner signature and address information; staff noted that detailed parcel information (lot and block) can be looked up by the town if the owner does not have it immediately available.

Commissioners mentioned examples of properties that could be plaque candidates, including the Markham house, and a commissioner said they had reached out to an owner who is currently in Denver. The discussion focused on practical outreach and enrollment rather than changing program rules or plaque criteria.
