Plan Commission grants primary approval for Red Alert tenant signage on US 41, then moves secondary review to staff

The Schererville Plan Commission on April 6 approved primary review for a commercial development plan at 1415–1445 Eagle Ridge Drive submitted by Red Alert Properties and represented by Tober Law. The commission also approved a subsequent motion allowing remaining secondary work to be handled at staff level so the petitioner would not need to return to the commission.

An attorney representing the petitioner (recorded in the transcript as Rhett Tobber) described the tenant fit and the signage request: “This is for a tenant that’s going to be occupying approximately 3,800 square feet in the first floor of our building … their initial request was to have signage on the front of the building … and also on the monument sign,” the attorney said. He noted the commission’s prior study-session preference against signage facing Eagle Ridge Drive and said the petitioner was comfortable with building-front and monument locations.

After a brief question period, Commissioner Jarvis moved approval “pursuant to all federal, state, and local regulations and that all fees are kept current to the town of Sherville.” The motion passed on a recorded roll-call vote with all seven commissioners voting yes. Later in the same agenda item the commission voted to move secondary review authority to staff, also passing 7-0, allowing staff to finalize minor remaining items without requiring the petitioner to return to the commission.
