Council refers skate-park interlocal agreement to April 21 action agenda

Assistant Public Works Director Erin briefed the council on a proposed two-year interlocal agreement among the school district, county and city governing the skate park located on school district property. Erin said the county supplies about $5,000 annually to support maintenance and that staff plans a structural analysis because the existing structure is aging.

Council read Resolution 1431-0326, “a resolution of the council of the city of Shelton allowing the city manager to enter into an interlocal agreement regarding the Shelton skate park operation,” and a motion to place the resolution on the April 21, 2026 action agenda passed by voice vote.

Why it matters: the skate park sits on school district land, so the interlocal agreement frames maintenance responsibilities, inspection/structural analysis and short-term stewardship. Staff said the district prefers a two-year agreement with a caveat that the city would perform structural analysis and return with longer-term recommendations.

Next steps: Resolution 1431-0326 will be placed on the April 21 action agenda for council consideration and staff will proceed with planned structural analysis and follow-up reporting.
