Mrs. Cooper reported the Academic Committee met March 10, 2026 and recommended the board consider two instructional items: adopting the Challenge Success climate‑survey tool across elementary, middle and high schools (with parent and staff versions) and moving forward with a full adoption recommendation for the K–5 Into Reading ELA pilot based on a unanimous curriculum‑team decision.
Board members praised the committee’s vetting process and emphasized the survey’s value for student voice and subgroup analysis. Trustees asked about cadence and logistics; staff said the vendor typically recommends administering the full instrument in the spring to inform fall actions, with flexibility to run surveys once or twice yearly and to select priority sections for shorter administrations.
The K–5 ELA pilot results were described as positive. The curriculum team will present Into Reading background materials for public review and the district will bring a formal adoption motion to the May board meeting.
The Academic Committee also recommended the board consider the Challenge Success survey for the 2026–27 school year; the presentation noted a discounted implementation cost of $28,600 (full price $33,600) and advised that student participation rates are highest when administration occurs in‑building during designated time blocks.
Board members requested clarity on community education, data use and how results will tie to strategic goals. Staff said they will return with implementation details and a recommendation for a rollout timeline should the board approve the tool.
