Resident says new parking behind Ronselli Park blocks backyard access; city pledges follow‑up

At the April 6 Sweetwater commission meeting, resident Chiara Obregon of 11500 SW 2nd Street told the mayor and commissioners she objected to newly installed street parking on Southwest 115th Avenue behind Ronselli Park.

Obregon said she had previously contacted city officials several times in August, September and December about vehicles parking on the swale and cited City of Sweetwater Ordinances 36‑26 and 36‑27, which prohibit parking on swales. She said the added legal parking spaces are now being used for regular residential parking rather than the event parking they were intended to provide, and the change has removed her ability to access her backyard and to accept large deliveries through her rear gate.

Mayor Diaz acknowledged the complaint, said the commission had tried to address parking pressure around the park, and noted signs restricting overnight parking are in place on parts of the park frontage. A commissioner apologized for not thinking of the resident’s property specifically and promised to contact her directly and work with the mayor and staff to find an amicable solution. The resident asked whether the city had followed notice rules for residential parking changes; the clerk and staff discussed advertising and ordinance notice requirements on the record.

No formal action was taken during the meeting; commissioners said staff would follow up with the resident.
