Sunny Isles Beach issues health and workforce proclamations, honors staff award winners

Mayor Larissa Suescun opened the March commission meeting by reading a series of proclamations recognizing public‑awareness observances and city staff.

Suescun read a proclamation designating March 9–15 as Flood Awareness Week, stressing coastal vulnerability and the need for resident preparedness and regional cooperation. The commission also proclaimed March 11 as Procurement Professionals Day and March 18 as Transit Drivers Day to recognize staff who manage purchasing and public transportation services.

After the proclamations, staff from floodplain management, procurement and transit came forward for recognition and photographs. The commission singled out Recreation Manager Jonathan, who was named to the National Recreation and Parks Association “30 Under 30” for his work establishing more than 20 programs and more than 60 monthly sessions for seniors, and offered applause and thanks.

Commissioners also approved proclamations for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Women’s History Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month and discussed public outreach steps such as making the child‑abuse hotline (1‑800‑962‑2873) more visible in city communications.

The proclamations are ceremonial actions that the commission used to highlight public health, workforce roles and local outreach; staff will coordinate photo opportunities and suggested communications with the city’s media team.
