Board approves $4,000 transfer to Registrar of Voters for August primary preparation

The Board of Estimate and Taxation approved an interdepartmental transfer of $4,000 to the Registrar of Voters on April 6 to cover election supplies and initial deposits tied to preparations for a potential August 11 primary.

Diana, speaking for the Registrar’s office, said the city is anticipating an August 11 primary with early voting from Aug. 3–9. She told the board that three polling locations will be unavailable because of abatement and HVAC work; staff are working with other departments to secure alternative sites. Diana said deposits and nominal facility fees may be required to reserve those sites.

Diana noted the American Legion has quoted a $1,500 four‑hour rental for one location; the office expects a $500 deposit will be required. She said most supplies and printing costs will be incurred closer to July, but the transfer ensures the office can begin training and site preparations.

Board members asked for clarification on which offices and races might be on the ballot; Diana said the office cannot confirm specific contested offices until petitions and deadlines close on June 9, but she said a primary for the 25th Senate seat and possible gubernatorial primaries were anticipated.

The board approved the $4,000 transfer by voice vote.
