Kankakee council approves routine permits, a conditional-use extension and a library appointment

Kankakee — The City Council on April 6 handled several routine agenda items by unanimous vote, including approval of minutes, event and street-closure permits, an extension of a conditional-use permit and a library-board appointment.

After public comment and department reports, the council approved the March 16 minutes (12–0). It then combined communication items 8A–D (street closures for St. Patrick's Parish Festival; Kankakee Cultivators Garden Club garden walk; a noise permit for On the Rocks; and the farmers market street closure) and approved them by roll call; Alderman Barron abstained on the farmers market item (8D) to avoid a potential conflict of interest.

On land use, the council approved an ordinance extending the conditional use permit at 1192 S. Washington Ave. for one year through April 7, 2027. Director King said the applicant needs time to secure funds for site plan approval and engineering; the extension maintains original permit conditions (building permits, licensing, site plan approvals and landscaping requirements). The ordinance passed on final reading (12–0).

The council also approved the appointment of Jerry Suddeth to the Kankakee Public Library Board by unanimous vote.
