County moves to have contractor clean up GIS parcel data after staff identify hundreds of unmapped or mis‑plotted parcels

Nicole, who oversees county mapping, told commissioners the county's GIS contains many parcels that cannot be plotted from existing deed descriptions and a substantial number of 'tails' and split‑geometry artifacts that leave small unplotted slivers. She said some records are stored in the tax system as '99' entries that lack usable legal calls for plotting.

"We have 300 over 300 of them, I think is what maybe he had told me...in our GIS system, we only have 30 99 numbers listed," Nicole said, describing the scale of unmapped parcels and the time required for cleanup.

Staff presented a WTH proposal (the packet lists $6,500) intended to correct the mapping layers and provide the GIS team access to additional underlying data layers so county staff can address many issues more quickly. Nicole and staff emphasized that title searches and deep research will still be required for a subset of parcels and that those items will be returned to the board for direction.
