District staff and board members gave routine updates on enrollment, hiring, special education monitoring and facilities at the Bandon SD 54 board meeting.
Staff reported enrollment is "staying about the same," summer school will begin after the last day of school, and the district is completing employee evaluations. Courtney said the district has "hired most of the positions we need for next year" and that one remaining role will be filled after interviews this week. She also noted strong community turnout for the district's health and wellness fair and a rise in incoming kindergarten registrations.
Becky updated the board on special education monitoring and said the district has one area for focus with a year to remedy the issue; staff have attended targeted professional development. Separately, staff reported the district is among the schools selected for a state facility condition assessment and that Veritas North America will perform detailed engineering reviews to document deficiencies and cost estimates to support future planning and grant-seeking.
Board members discussed bus garage permitting, ongoing facility hurdles and the potential to use the facility condition assessment to help negotiate for funding. The board also reviewed a brief list of upcoming dates, invited members to the staff lunch on June 6 and confirmed outdoor graduation on June 1.
No formal board action was required for the operational updates; related finance items and bills were handled as separate action items earlier in the meeting.
