Representatives from two community organizations asked the board for permission to hold downtown events, and the board approved both requests.
Steve, speaking on behalf of Friends of Downtown, said the group seeks approval for its annual "Mosey Down Main Street" series on May 9, June 13, July 11, Aug. 8 and Sept. 5. He provided the board with a summary of the organization's projects and money returned to local nonprofits since 2018, including donations to Food Finders and other community meal efforts. "On behalf of the Friends of Downtown, we invite you all to attend," he said. The board moved, seconded and approved the event application.
Olivia Carmen, an intern with the YWCA, described a proposed June 6 "Power of Community" event to honor people going through cancer journeys and asked to close part of the street in front of the YWCA if needed for safety. She said the event would run roughly 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.; staff discussed a possible closure window through about 10:00 p.m. and confirmed that good-neighbor letters were distributed roughly a week and a half earlier. The board approved the YWCA request by voice vote.
Both approvals were routine and passed with no recorded objections. No special conditions or permit fees were discussed on the record; event logistics will proceed under normal permitting and public-safety coordination with city staff.
