The Gulf County Board of Commissioners voted to award Bid 25-2609 to Roberts and Roberts for $2,830,622.50 at a special meeting. Mr. Hammon presented the bid and recommended the firm as the lowest and best bidder.
Commissioner McLemore moved to approve the award; Commissioner Pridgeon seconded. One commissioner voted against the motion, stating concern that Roberts and Roberts is not a local business. The motion carried 4-1.
Staff told the board the total came in significantly under earlier estimates, creating room for change orders. Commissioners were asked to provide lists of additional roads, prioritized by district, so staff can obtain preliminary prices and present a prioritized plan at the next meeting.
The presenter said the contractor will need to complete bonding and paperwork before mobilizing and that mobilization and documentation could take a few weeks. Commissioners discussed sequence and noted contractors typically mobilize in a pattern; staff (Clay and others) will coordinate with the contractor on timing and priorities.
No public opposition or questions were recorded during the vote. A commissioner asked about a start date; staff said the contractor needs time to assemble documents and bonds before starting work.
The board’s next steps: commissioners to submit prioritized road lists to staff within weeks and staff to return with cost estimates and a recommended game plan for a future vote.
