The Edison Municipal Council on April 7 adopted resolutions recognizing two Edison High School wrestlers for outstanding careers and presented each with remarks from council members, coaches and family.
A resolution honoring Fernando Avellan (known as "Nando") noted a career total of 143 wins, including district titles and county championships; Avellan told the council he was grateful to coaches, family and teammates and said he would continue his athletics and academics at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Council members praised his dedication and contribution to Edison athletics.
The council also adopted a resolution recognizing Jeremy Negron for a 134‑win career, including district championships and a regional title, and said Negron will continue his athletic career at Castleton University in Vermont. Coaches, family members and councilmembers spoke about the athletes' leadership and the importance of local youth‑sports programs.
Both resolutions were opened for public comment and closed without objection; the council then adopted the measures by roll call and held brief photo presentations.
