The Santa Fe Springs City Council accepted a proclamation recognizing National Library Week (April 19–25) and highlighted the role of the Santa Fe Springs City Library in supporting local education and culture.
Library staff and volunteers, including librarian Jessica Magayanis and volunteers Renee Shorda, Rosemary Gerola and Javier Zamora, came forward to accept the proclamation. Volunteer Rosemary Gerola told the council she previously worked at Santa Fe Springs Library early in her library career and welcomed the celebration.
City staff also introduced a new "birthday home visits" initiative that will recognize residents aged 90 and older with home visits from the mayor, city council and staff. Staff described the program as a way to honor longstanding community members; the first visit celebrated Miss Satie Calderon’s 99th birthday. City staff invited nominations and said an online application and program details will be posted on city social media.
The proclamation and the birthday home-visit program are ceremonial acknowledgments and do not create new budgeted services in the meeting record.
