Select Board ratifies appointment of Tom Welch as Millis principal assessor

The Millis Select Board on April 6 voted unanimously to ratify the town administrator's appointment of Tom Welch as principal assessor, filling a vacancy left by the retirement of longtime assessor Terry Gonzalez.

Town Administrator Mike Kazinski presented a memo from the finance director describing a competitive recruitment that identified Tom Welch as the recommended candidate. "Tom is a certified Massachusetts municipal assessor and brings an impressive depth of experience in municipal assessing," the memo said. The administrator recommended the appointment be ratified pending a successful background and physical.

A board member moved and seconded the ratification motion; the board voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously. Welch, participating by Zoom, thanked the board and said he was "really looking forward to working with the team" and learning more about Millis.

The appointment is effective pending completion of routine pre‑employment checks; the board did not discuss compensation details in public.
