The Beaufort County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the district strategic plan and five-year school renewal plans for the 2026–27 school year.
District presenters walked the board through the renewal-plan process, calling it the midpoint of a five-year cycle with annual interim goals. Presenter Dr. Stratos told the board, “School renewal plans are what drives transformation at our schools,” and highlighted district pillars—support, engagement, achievement and stewardship—that guide the goals. Staff described district targets described in the presentation as “75/75/92” for core academic and graduation metrics and said individual schools set tailored interim goals to reach those targets.
Board members asked how progress is tracked; district staff said monitoring visits, instructional reviews and formative assessments are used throughout the year to measure progress and to inform adjustments to instruction and supports. One board member urged the administration to codify the district’s process for sharing successful practices across schools so the public can see how high-performing schools’ approaches are spread districtwide.
Several schools were highlighted as exemplars in the packet: Bluffton High and Elementary, Joseph Shanklin, Red Cedar Elementary and Whale Branch Middle School, with staff noting targeted work for subgroups including multilingual learners. After discussion, a board member moved to approve the strategic plan and the set of school renewal plans; the motion passed unanimously, with six members recorded in favor.
The board’s approval directs staff to continue implementation and monitoring under the established timelines. The board did not set additional funding in the motion; follow-up reports and instructional reviews will be used to measure whether interim targets are being met.
