Council confirms Jonathan Levy as street‑lighting director and approves $120,666 salary

The Los Angeles City Council confirmed Jonathan Levy as director of the Bureau of Street Lighting and approved a annual salary of $120,666 on July 27, 1999.

Levy, introduced at the supplemental agenda item, was presented as having the unanimous recommendation of the public works committee. When asked where he had worked previously, Levy said he was at the city of San Diego.

Council members discussed whether to set the salary in closed session. Mr. Wax moved that the salary be approved publicly and the council then tabulated the vote; the salary motion passed (recorded as 12 yes). The confirmation vote for the appointment was also recorded as approved (roll call recorded earlier as unanimous in the committee and then approved by the full council).

The council welcomed Levy to city service and directed clerical processing of the appointment.
