At the Baldwin Park City Recreation and Community Services meeting, program specialist Gus Vasquez reviewed recent arts and music programming and announced an upcoming Asian-American and Pacific Islander celebration.
Vasquez said the Baldwin Park High School opening reception on March 27 featured a live performance by the high school orchestra and choir and showcased more than 100 student works across ceramics, photography, graphic design and drawing. He estimated roughly 100 people attended the opening and said the exhibit remains on display through April 25.
Vasquez also summarized the monthly Twilight Tunes event, whose recent performance featured a local blues-rock group. He estimated attendance for the concert at "close to 200, probably like 180," and said the neighborhood often gathers around music and turns the events into a block-party atmosphere. Staff provided free snacks and refreshments for attendees.
Looking ahead, Vasquez announced an Asian-American and Pacific Islander celebration scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Arts and Recreation Center and a related exhibit running May 5 to June 6. The flyer distributed to commissioners includes a phone number with extension and lists an email printed as allocartca.gov for artist inquiries and submissions; staff said there is also an online submission form and direct drop-off options.
Commissioners asked whether an instructor named Tia Mau participates; staff indicated she commonly performs with her students and teaches at the center. The commission thanked staff for the programs and their outreach to local schools and artists.
The meeting record shows the commission approved prior minutes and adjourned at 5:26 p.m.; no formal votes or funding decisions for these arts events were recorded in the transcript.
