Heidi Wilder, Jeff Robinson and Matt Tiscus were formally presented certificates of election and took the oath of office during the Weatherford City Council meeting in May 2020, officials said.
The presiding official read certificates declaring Wilder duly elected to council member place No. 1, Robinson to place No. 2 and Tiscus to place No. 3, citing orders of cancellation for the May 2, 2020 special election and corresponding municipal actions declaring the candidates elected after they ran unopposed. The chair presented each certificate "in the name and by the authority of the city of Weatherford, Texas," and each appointee repeated the oath administered by city staff.
Melanie, the official administering the oath, led the swearing-in language; the sworn members repeated the words, "I do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office ... and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state."
Council and staff paused for photographs and brief congratulations after each oath. The council then proceeded to the evening's agenda, including consent items and an ordinance on park regulations.
The certificates referenced the city orders canceling the May 2, 2020 election (orders dated 02/26/2020 and 03/10/2020) as the basis for declaring the candidates elected; the meeting record shows the presentations and oaths took place at the start of the council's May session.
