The Union County Board of Commissioners considered routine business and several items the board decided to hold for more information.
A building permit (partial number 04 05 02 0685) for a new garage at 435 North County Line Road in Clayton, for applicants John Reed and Kimberly Cole, was presented and recommended for approval. The board moved, seconded and recorded affirmative responses to approve the permit.
Under old business, a resolution to appoint trustees to the Evan Ebenezer Hall Cemetery Board remained tabled until that board can meet and provide official names at a future March meeting.
On new business, the board approved payment of the presented bill list following a motion to pay the bills.
The board also reviewed competing quotes for elevator maintenance. Staff reported the current TKE contract had been about $9,300 per year under the prior agreement and the new TKE proposal would increase to $10,200; a competing company, Phoenix, provided a lower quote that staff estimated might cost about $5,000 for routine service but uses per‑hour pricing for repairs. Commissioners noted the county's elevator uses an obsolete brand with potentially limited parts availability; staff were instructed to contact Phoenix with the elevator brand information to confirm parts sourcing. The board agreed to table the contract while staff gathers parts and service information.
Finally, the chair moved to return the regular meeting to executive session to discuss personnel; the motion was seconded and commissioners voted to go into executive session.
Next steps: Staff will follow up on elevator parts availability and pricing, post public information items as directed, and report back to the board. No formal contract award or additional funding was approved at the meeting.
