The Commissioner's Court of Brown County adopted a proclamation designating April 26 as Child Abuse Prevention Month after a court member moved to support the measure and members signaled approval by raising their hands.
A presenter for the Brown County Child Welfare Board read the proclamation aloud, saying, “Children thrive in safe and stable, nurturing families within their own Texas communities,” and urging local partnerships to support families before crises arise. The reading included local and statewide figures: confirmed victims reported as 187 in Brown County, 2,520 in Region 2 and 51,985 in Texas; child fatalities were read as zero in Brown County, two in the region and 125 statewide.
The proclamation urged coordinated community action — including faith groups, nonprofits, schools, health care providers, social workers and government agencies — to strengthen supports that help families remain stable and protect children. After the reading, a commissioner moved to support the proclamation; the court approved it by members raising their hands and the presiding official signed the document.
The court recessed briefly at 9:06 a.m. so participants could go outside for a photograph related to the proclamation. No departmental reports or formal votes with tallies were recorded on the record beyond the voice/hand-raising approval of the proclamation.
